Global Game Jam

Date: One weekend each January (2018-2026)
Software: Unity (and an assortment of other tools and programs)
Project type: Global Game Jam (48 hours)

The Global Game Jam is a yearly adventure in which I work with different teams for one weekend and create a complete game within 48 hours.
For me, this is a time to simultaneously have a lot of fun developing something that is oftentimes silly, but it also creates a lineup of games in which I can see my growth as a creator and team player.

My personal favourites are Magnet Opus (2022), in which I had tons of fun with the art direction and shaders (and it shows!), and Fragility (2025), in which the whole team let our creativity lead us in unexpected directions throughout most of the process.

Magnet Opus is a simple platformer in which the bright visuals lean heavily on the thick wobbly outlines of objects, and bright pops of colour. Made for Global Game Jam 2022 - Josien Vos Portfolio
A 3D game in an old ruined temple, with simple shapes but mysterious lighting, as well as some messed-up critters to find, made for Global Game Jam 2021 - Josien Vos Portfolio
